Joining Carpet Together
Durable carpet tape helps create the carpet joints.
Joining carpet together. As you move the iron press the carpet pieces behind it gently down into the tape while pushing the pieces tightly together. Both carpet pieces will be joined together but will not have the stitching appearance visible. This usually extends at least 3 8 inch around the perimeter of the rug. 1 unroll the two pieces of carpet you are piecing together so they are laying side by side.
Keep the nap stays out of the adhesive. In this video i share an easy strategy to cut and seam carpet. Use a carpet tractor or a weighted object to push the melted glue into the grid backing of the carpet so it will fully adhere to the tape. Do you need to join your carpet.
The tape has an adhesive back that you must heat with a special tool. Carefully let down the other piece of carpet flattening its edge against the edge of the first piece and into the seam adhesive. Next place the two edges of the carpet pieces alongside each other. Decide which sides of the rugs you want to join together.
Since most small area rugs have finished edges one edge on each rug will need to be removed to bring the piles of the rugs together. Move the iron slowly and steadily down the seam and across the tape allowing it to linger just long enough to activate the adhesive at each point. Start at the corner and use a seam ripper to remove the crossover edge stitching. Wiggle and butt the edges together as needed to join them together evenly.
Repeat these steps along the entire length of the carpet until it is fully seamed. With sylka you can easily join two sections together. Join the seams. If the two edges buckle press down on them until you can smooth it out.
As the carpet wears the carpet threads seem to blend better than shorter pile carpets. Apply seam adhesive along the cushion of the carpet that is stuck to the floor.
