Getting rid of carpet beetle food sources vacuuming often and occasional use of boric acid or indoor insecticides will keep carpet beetles from returning. As soon as their presence is detected quick action is required to kill larvae and adult carpet beetles and to destroy their eggs. They reside in closets drawers and upholstered furniture among other places. Carpet beetles tend to eat large areas of fabric which create large holes and makes them easier to spot unlike other pests such as moths that eat smaller more spread out holes.

Carpet beetles damage carpets rugs and clothing. Alcohol is used as both a carpet beetle larvae repellent and a pesticide. Cider vinegar is a great way to kill larvae without damaging your home with chemicals. Food and sweat stains on fabrics can attract carpet beetles.

Vacuuming carpeting and washing your clothes and other fabrics frequently at least once every 2 or so weeks is the best way to prevent a carpet beetle infestation. Clean carpet beetle prone areas frequently. Carpet beetle larvae eat a varied diet that is composed mainly of animal hair silk plants feathers natural fibers wool cotton and other dead insects.
